Lions Roar To Cup Victory!
Leamington Lions travelled to Birmingham for the under 11 cup final and came
back victorious with an emphatic 6 goal victory. From the outset Lions went
for the jugular with Tyler Miller going close on the first attack. Several
piercing attacks followed and Solihull stood firm with some strong
defending. It was after one of these attacks that a corner was given and
Megan Moran put in one her pearling corners which was un defendable and was
deflected in to make it 1-0. Lions did not rest here and from a dangerous
bit of wing play from Nicky Bywater and a great cross to follow saw Ella
Keal dive in to head home with an opportunist goal. Lydia Clarke and Danni
Mawby began to put heavy pressure on the Solihull goal and from this came
two trade mark Clarke goals, both giving the Solihull goal keeper no
chance.With Tyler Miller working wonders down the right more chances were
sure to follow.
With the spine of the team controlling everything, Lions were in total
control of all aspects of the game. Sophie Reynolds totally snuffing out any
Solihull attack and Pindi Sandhu turning in a Paul Ince type performance.
Clare Dixon was asked to do a man marking job and did everything asked of
her. Katie Knowles and Emma Weston controlling the Lions right hand side
giving Solihull no chance.

The second half saw Leamington looking for more blood and both flanks were
working hard to get the ball into the Solihull box and from one of these
attacks saw Danni Mawby net with some great work by Chelsea Mansell and
Yashlyne. Solihull began to put some good attacks together and went close,
but with Zara Grudzinzki in great form and with a clean sheet at stake they
were given only crumbs to feed on. Goal six was soon to follow and this came
through some great wing play by Lydia Clarke from a swift build up from a
Lions goal kick by Sophie Reynolds to go the length of the pitch and put a
great cross in for Nicky Bywater to hit an unstoppable shot. Lions continued
to put Solihull to the sword going close on several occasions .
