WELL DOLIONS PENALTY QUEENS LIFT U10's OPEN CUPNE
Leamington Lions roared on by a large crowd, entertained rivals Knowle, in the U10's Cup final. With both sides evenly matched in wet and rainy conditions; Knowle soon took the lead with an unfortunate spill by the Lions keeper in really wet conditions .
Spurred on lions kept the faith and shots reined in from all angles with Amber, Marianna, Molly and Grace all going close. It took desperate measures to force an equaliser with only 2 minutes remaining everyone pushed up for a corner. Kheerut delivered a peach of a corner into the box which took a slight deflection to send the lions roaring into extra time.
On a high Lions pushed for a winner but again Knowle broke and stole a winner. So they thought!! But with tears of disappointment stemmed Lions again surged on. Chance after chance went begging and again with 2 minutes remaining the ball was whipped into the box and with plenty of time Marianna Jones slotted home cool as you like to send the game into penalties.
Lions were all told to hit the target with their penalties which they duly did. Molly, Sasha and Grace all scored whilst Emma was excellent in goal for Lions. It was Captain and keeper Emma Mooney who slotted home the winning goal to give the Leamington Lions their first Open Cup win in the clubs history.
